Captain Dreiseidl tossed his chess set into the waves after losing his 4,354th consecutive match, this time to the 13-year-old cook's assistant.
His shipload of native islanders believed it a crime punishable by death to touch a Queen, so none of them dared to try saving any of the small carved pieces.
Captain Dreieseidl resigned his captaincy and became a libertine, pursuing a life of dissipation and disorder. The islanders went home and resumed banging rocks together in the peace of the afternoon sun.
However, Queens are born into unalterable circumstances, whether those be harmonious and sensible, or pitching and deadly. For those of us not royal, there are only two questions to consider:
Would you like to step outside the parameters of your life?
and
How long can you hold your breath?
